MESIS School commemorated World Heritage Day on the 18th of April 2024 with a plethora of engaging activities aimed at fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of global cultural and natural heritage among its students. The day was marked by a series of events tailored to each grade level, offering diverse experiences that encouraged active participation and learning.
Activities by Grade Level:
Grades 1-4: UNESCO Emblem Formation
The younger students, in Grades 1 to 4, were introduced to the significance of UNESCO and its role in preserving world heritage. They actively participated in forming the UNESCO emblem, which not only showcased their creativity but also instilled in them a sense of pride and ownership in preserving global cultural treasures.
Grade 5: Virtual Tour of World Heritage Sites
Students in Grade 5 embarked on an exciting journey through the wonders of world heritage sites via virtual tours. This immersive experience allowed them to explore renowned cultural and natural landmarks from the comfort of their classrooms, broadening their horizons and deepening their understanding of diverse cultures and ecosystems.
Grade 6: Collage Making on Qatar Heritage Sites
Grade 6 students delved into the rich cultural tapestry of Qatar by creating captivating collages showcasing its heritage sites. Through this hands-on activity, they not only honed their artistic skills but also gained valuable insights into the historical and architectural significance of Qatar’s cultural treasures.
Grade 7: Sharing Experiences of Heritage Sites
In Grade 7, students had the opportunity to share their personal experiences of visiting heritage sites with their classmates. This interactive session facilitated meaningful discussions and allowed students to appreciate the diversity of cultural experiences while fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.
Grade 8: Research and Presentation on Heritage Sites
Students in Grade 8 undertook thorough research on various heritage sites worldwide and presented their findings to the class. This exercise not only enhanced their research and presentation skills but also deepened their knowledge of different cultural, historical, and natural landmarks across the globe.
Grade 9: Mock UNESCO Committee
Grade 9 students engaged in a simulation of a UNESCO committee, where they deliberated on the preservation and promotion of world heritage sites. This immersive experience provided them with valuable insights into the complexities of heritage conservation efforts and fostered critical thinking and collaboration skills.
Grade 11: Heritage Quiz
The seniors in Grade 11 participated in an exhilarating quiz on world heritage, organized into teams of two. This competitive yet educational event tested their knowledge of global heritage sites and traditions, encouraging teamwork and friendly competition among the participants.
In the Heritage Quiz , Deepika Arunkumar and Sharika Mallikuppam Balaji secured the first position, while Sruthi Lakshmi Ambala Parambil and Nabeeha Arsheen clinched the second position.
The World Heritage Day celebration at MESIS School was a resounding success, offering students a multifaceted approach to understanding and appreciating the cultural and natural wonders of the world.
